The london-based artist, also our recent guest at the &#8220;Island Selectors&#8221; event in Mauritius and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.phonicarecords.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Phonica Records<\/a>\u2019 wizard, Jeanne; brings along much love and engages on an exclusive mix calibrated just for your spaced-out experience.<\/p>\n<h5 style=\"font-weight: 800;\">When, Where and How was this mix recorded?<\/h5>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px !important;\">This mix was recorded at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedocksstudios.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Docks Studios<\/a> in London, my friend\u2019s studio in Dalston. I used 2 MKII turntables, a Xone 92 mixer, and I put some bird samples on a CD and played it with the CDJ (first time I was using one, was pretty nervous haha).<\/p>\n<h5 style=\"font-weight: 800;\">How would you relate it to us?<\/h5>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px !important;\">It took me a while to know what\u00a0\u201c10 years of electroca\u00efne&#8221; meant to me. I\u2019ve known <a href=\"http:\/\/www.electrocaine.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">electroca\u00efne<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/avneesh.mu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Avneesh<\/a> for more than 6 years now. We became friends around our passion for music and, that\u2019s the idea behind this mix. It\u2019s a very personal one because it\u2019s not the kind of music I usually play out, and thought it was the perfect place to start something different. I know that it\u2019s in good hands and I can experiment a bit more! So instead of looking backwards to the past few years and play music that we listened to 6 years ago, I wanted to look forward and play things that I\u2019ve never played before but that I love and means a lot to me.<\/p>\n<h5 style=\"font-weight: 800;\">Your set is made up of such different textures&#8230;like for every genre that&#8217;s in there, there&#8217;s a track radiating its intensity to it. How did you pick your tunes?<\/h5>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px !important;\">The idea was to blend different genres, I can\u2019t stick to one! I think the idea behind this mix was something for my friends and family, all of them living\u00a0around the\u00a0world. I downloaded a sample of a bird singing in Singapore\u2026 There\u2019s music from Australia, France, Italy,\u00a0Germany\u2026 There&#8217;s one of my grandfather&#8217;s records in there, a Kraftwerk one. Before he passed away he gave me all his record collection, mainly jazz and classical. And then I found a Kraftwerk record and went to see him and I was like \u201cWow Papy you listen to Kraftwerk that\u2019s amazing!\u201d and he told me \u201cOh yes I bought this when it came out, really not my thing\u201d and we laughed. He passed away 3 years ago, and I always have one of his records in my bag. It was important for me to put it in this mix for you.<\/p>\n<h5 style=\"font-weight: 800;\">What first drove you into music?, like when you knew that this was it.<\/h5>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px !important;\">It took me a while to realise that that\u2019s what I wanted to do\u00a0professionally, but music has always been part of my life. I\u2019ve been obsessed with electronic music for a long time now! I used to listen to Daft Punk when I was a kid, and then started to listen to electro-house when I was a teenager. A friend made me discover techno and that was the gateway to a whole new\u00a0world! From there moved to house, and then the samples used there and discovered funk, soul, and disco\u2026 Jazz was introduced to me by my grandfather, and now with my job I get to listen to new music every day, which is amazing!<\/p>\n<h5 style=\"font-weight: 800;\">As you were developing your own mixing style, which djs inspired you the most?<\/h5>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px !important;\">Wow there are so many I don\u2019t know where to start! I\u2019m a big fan of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.residentadvisor.net\/dj\/antal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Antal<\/a>, I saw him play at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.corsicastudios.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Corsica Studios<\/a> some time ago and I\u2019ve been\u00a0following him ever since, such an amazing DJ. I\u2019m completely\u00a0obsessed with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.residentadvisor.net\/dj\/donatodozzy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Donato Dozzy<\/a>, I\u2019ve seen him many times, his sets at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.terraformafestival.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Terraforma<\/a> are always unique! I really like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stonesthrow.com\/jrocc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">J Rocc<\/a> too, he has so much energy and knowledge to share. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.residentadvisor.net\/dj\/rufdug\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ruf Dug<\/a> did this amazing <a href=\"http:\/\/testpressing.org\/2015\/07\/ruf-dug-guadeloupe-mix\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Guadeloupe mix<\/a> that\u2019s been on repeat at work for the past few months! Peeps like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/KUTMAH\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kutmah<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.residentadvisor.net\/dj\/alexandernut\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Alexander Nut<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.residentadvisor.net\/dj\/thomasfehlmann\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Thomas Fehlmann<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.residentadvisor.net\/dj\/volcovakaisoul8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Volcov<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.residentadvisor.net\/dj\/beatricedillon\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Beatrice Dillon<\/a><\/p>\n<h5 style=\"font-weight: 800;\">You work at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.phonicarecords.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Phonica Records<\/a>!!, that&#8217;s like the hall of knowledge to music, could you tell us a bit more of how things are over there?<\/h5>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px !important;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.phonicarecords.com\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-2636\" src=\"http:\/\/electrocaine.com\/podcast\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/phonica.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1465\" height=\"545\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px !important;\">It\u2019s just really fun! We have a great team here, and we just listen to music all day long! I\u2019ve been there for 3 years now, and did a lot of different things\u2026 Started working on the shop floor, which was amazing because you meet different people every day and chat about music! Then I started working for the label, and for the past 2 years I\u2019ve been taking care of the web orders as well, every day is different and that\u2019s what I enjoy the most. Everybody at the shop has their own taste and knowledge so we learn a lot from each other\u2026 I discovered dub, ambient, krautrock, african music, you have so many great records coming in every week; we\u2019re just super lucky!<\/p>\n<h5 style=\"font-weight: 800;\">If someone never listened to jazz and is willing to, apart from telling them that they&#8217;ve been missing out a huge part of their lives, which artist would you recommend for their first ear?<\/h5>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px !important;\">Well I think you have to start with the classics, it\u2019s an easy and fun way to discover a new genre and then if you like an artist you can start listening to other albums from them! <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=kbxtYqA6ypM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kind of Blue<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=ll3CMgiUPuU\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">A Love Supreme<\/a> are 2 great albums to start with. You can explore <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sun_Ra\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sun Ra<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Thelonious_Monk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Thelonious Monk<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alicecoltrane.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Alice Coltrane<\/a> (my 2 favourite are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=TQtEFdyhgdE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Journey in Satchidananda<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=uvAXV7R5Sts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Elements with Joe Henderson<\/a>). I have a soft spot for organ so I\u2019m a big fan of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jimmy_Smith_(musician)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jimmy Smith<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Count_Basie\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Count Basie<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jack_McDuff\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jack McDuff<\/a>.
